Proposal: Startup Business

Please spend your votes wisely. You can vote for any question you want, but if you vote for a question that already has 10 votes, it makes very little difference. So it would help if you spent your votes on a question with less than 10 votes. Also, please use all your votes, it helps a lot!

    There is a growing contingent of users who realize that if you are voting for the express purpose of simply pushing the proposal through, you aren't really voting for the best questions and it will ultimately hurt the prospects for launching a successful site (See discuss.area51.stackexchange.com/a/8767/5). It is my belief that the efforts to shuffle votes "wisely" is what doomed the competitive programming proposal by pushing it through before it could be demonstrated that it could be a useful site.

  • Nobody should be voting for bad questions to push a proposal over the threshold, and that wasn't the intent here. Not everybody who comes to A51 understands how it works. I took this question as an attempt to explain this to them.

No, vote honestly. Determining the scope is the most crucial part of creating a healthy SE community. (And the part where the old site failed, I think.)

    The problem is, that if everyone only votes for the best questions, those questions will have 30+ votes and the rest will be waiting at one or two.

    @DonyorM That has never happened before. Everyone does not have the same interests or want to see the same thing for the site. If you find that there's only a few questions everyone is voting on, then there isn't enough interesting material for which to build an entire site.

Please ask your questions wisely

Most people are aware that they have a limited number of votes and therefore they have to choose. The problem is, if you have a few good questions, and a lot of crap, or in best case, mediocre questions. Most people don't like voting mediocre questions, and many folks here really dislike if someone upvotes crap only to put the proposals higher.

You have not only 5 upvotes, but also 5 example questions you can contribute to the proposal. The more example questions, the more potential to find 40 good enough to deserve 10 upvotes.
