Maybe it could be a good idea to have a stack exchange site intended to find contributors for open source projects.

Say for example I have a OS project on github and I want to find contributors. Such a site would allow people to get together and contribute to the OS project.

Is it a good idea?

No, this isn't a good idea. The SE network is about questions that withstand the test of time, and have objective answers. Questions that just ask, "Who wants to contribute to X?" fail both of these criteria. Questions would have very limited value, and become out of date very quickly. Any answers garnered for those questions would also be very limited; "I will contribute" is neither objective, nor definitive.

If finding people is your goal, then perhaps a regular forum would be a better fit for this idea.
