Proposal: Mathematics Learning, Studying, and Education

The proposal progresses quite fast, at the time of writing we only miss 52 commits (so a quater) and are already done regarding the second criterion (100 commits of 200+ points users), and the third one (some less clearcut metric) should be automatic with the 52 extra commits as we are already at around 95 percent.

I am wondering if we should just wait as commits trickle in (people still join, even some very active users only joined lately so some more might still follow, but it slowed down quite a bit) or if some more advertizing is called for.

Actually, where was the proposal advertized?

I know of:

  1. meta.MO

  2. meta.math.SE

  3. meta.academia.SE

  4. reddit

Anything else? Especially was it on any other metas? Would it make sense to mention it on, say, tcs, stats, scicomp, mathematica? If yes, are there any users that could mention it there? (It seems better if a regular user brings something like this up rather than some uninvolved person.)

Given the fact we are "done" regarding users with SE points we could advertise elsewhere too. It is likely desirable to be carful whom to target but perhaps there are some ideas around.

I also tried /r/teachers on Reddit and the xkcd math forums (although I couldnt post a link so it was essentially worthless). – Brian Rushton Feb 28 '14 at 2:13

There is some evidence that the commit rate is slowing. As of right now:

  • 6 users committed today (i.e. in the last 24 hours).
  • 13 users committed yesterday.
  • 6 users committed 2 days ago.
  • 13 users committed 3 days ago.
  • 13 users committed 4 days ago.
  • 10 users committed 5 days ago.
  • 18 users committed 6 days ago.
  • 23 users committed 7 days ago.

Nonetheless, I don't think this is a cause for concern. We only need 52 more commits before we get to the private beta, and we will probably reach this level in another week or two.

Of course, more advertising certainly wouldn't hurt.

Thanks for compiling the data! re 'hurt' We should likely be careful not to overadvertise at some places. There were some mild or indirect complaints here and there (meta.academia for instance). An idea behind my post was also as a place to collect things that were done, to minimize duplication. – quid Feb 28 '14 at 0:47
  • The 'bump' yesterday was from a fresh re-advertisemnt on reddit. – Brian Rushton Feb 28 '14 at 2:14
  • At 30 now, so I am saying 4 days to go. And preparing my first question. – JTP - Apologise to Monica Mar 2 '14 at 15:06
