Proposal: Software Recommendations

Are webapp recommendations also OK?

For instance:

Is there an online tool that allows to convert from SVG to PNG, without having to install anything on the local computer?

Such questions are not welcome on webapps.stackexchange.com: "Questions seeking application recommendations are off-topic unless they detail what has already been tried and rejected." Even though some perform well.

Of course such questions should be allowed.

If a user has the need for a non-install online tool, why limit the site to exclude those?! It is perfectly fine to ask for those tools.

I agree, but the proposal's wording should be updated, to include also "applications" in general and not only "software".

I'd say a web-tool is also a peace of software.

  • Yes technically you are right, but I guess in most people's mind, "software" brings in mind only desktop applications, not web apps. Anyway, that's just my opinion, I might be wrong!
