Proposal: Music Fans

Is "Music Fans" a duplicate of music.stackexchange.com? That site is

for musicians, students, and enthusiasts.

"Fans" are enthusiasts, after all.

Their site suffers from a lack of questions, so maybe if they broadened the scope, we could ask stuff over there. I'm guessing that, by their current standards, my example questions would be off-topic. Anyway, someone, maybe the proposer of "Music Fans", might consider broaching the topic on meta.music.stackexchange.com

It's too bad area51 deletes discussions, because apparently the distinction between the two sites has been discussed before (note the dead link to an "excellent post"...or rather a link that is dead to folks without 10k area51 rep).

EDIT: For me, the current "about" line answers the question of where experts and professionals on the topic might come from:

Proposed Q&A site for music listening enthusiasts, music historians, and members of the music press corps to ask questions regarding (known) interpretations of songs, historical influences of bands, and the music industry (including production) in general

  • Yeah. I like the scope I see there now; this is not a merge request. I just started this discussion after seeing that the proposal was flagged as a dupe by @warren, and didn't know (or had forgotten) about the other site.

Music Practice & Performance is about people who make music. I'm no subject expert, but this strikes me as very different from people who consume music — like writers vs. readers or computer programmers vs. computer users.

MPP is open to enthusiasts — as in people who participate in the church choir or play the guitar now and then as a hobby. That's still very different from people who listen to records MP3s.

Music Fans is definitely not a duplicate of MPP as it is now. If MPP is to broaden its scope (which seems unlikely to me), this needs to be discussed on MPP Meta, not here.

    If Music Fans goes into public beta, it will be very natural to include a "Belongs on Music Fans" flag reason on MPP. In my opinion, this would have to be a natural exception to the rule that beta sites will not have this option until graduated. The reason I say this is that 99% of the closed off-topic questions on MPP today will be on topic on Music Fans.
