How about adding a site for fedora? It would be similar to askubuntu.com

EDIT
I just added it here

Is the Fedora proposal meant to cover other Red Hat products like RHEL and derivatives like Centos and Yellow Dog? – Charles Stewart Mar 15 '11 at 13:24
  • @Charles I haven't thought about those – BЈовић Mar 15 '11 at 13:32

There is a site ask.fedoraproject.org very similar (but not affiliated with stackexchange). In my opinion it is terrible compared with stackexchage's AskUbuntu. I wish there is one supported by stackexchange. – alfC Apr 28 '13 at 5:29

To bad the proposal was deleted. Also, I must say that ask.fedoraproject.org has improved a lot. – alfC Jan 28 '15 at 22:55

  • Is there any interest in pursuing this again? – orschiro Jan 28 '18 at 11:40

If it gets official backing from Red Hat, then I support it. If Red Hat don't hint at any interest before it gets to the beta stage, then it should be closed as a duplicate of Unix&Linux.

It seems duplicative to have one for each of the more indie distros if there isn't some compelling interest (i.e. Red Hat or other patronage). Also, I can't see how having SUSE, Fedora, etc users on the same stack couldn't be beneficial for both. – mfg Mar 15 '11 at 13:01

@mfg: I agree; I just think we should see what the interest looks like before closing the site. Fundamentally, we should be clear that these distro-based sites have no future without backing. – Charles Stewart Mar 15 '11 at 13:16

@mfg Context -- some solutions may be system-specific. This is not very strong, but works for forums. So I think it deserves a try. – mbq Mar 15 '11 at 13:36

I like the idea.

Pros:

  • Fedora is much cooler than Ubuntu (at least when it comes to color theme)
  • It is quite possible to trick Red Hat in patronage, like it was possible with Canonical

Cons:

  • Unix&Linux have 92 [fedora] questions (and 182 [ubuntu], as a baseline)
  • Someone should decide what to with SUSE, Mandriva and more independent distros

  • you mean Mageia – Knu Mar 15 '11 at 17:13
  • -1 because 'cooler' isn't much of a valid metric. +1 for garnering Red Hat support so you get a +0 :) – Evan Plaice Mar 18 '11 at 1:48
  • Fragmenting the linux community will make it harder to get information not easier. There are already distro specific forums if the question really does relate to a specific distro - but that's not even always true (fedora, rhel, centos all use yum for instance). – dave Nov 2 '12 at 7:12
  • @dave This proposal is dead anyway. – mbq Nov 2 '12 at 9:20
  • @mbq ah, good to see. – dave Nov 2 '12 at 9:23
  • well, that fedora proposal might be dead ... but this one isn't: area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/37830/fedora ... time to kill it again :( – dave Nov 2 '12 at 9:24

Though earlier proposals are deleted, please help to make this one a success.
