Proposal: Cloud Security

@Warren

The difference between IT Security and Cloud Security is that IT Security deals with network and infrastructure security. Cloud Security deals specifically with the security of user data while in the hands of a third party cloud provider. Although Cloud Security could be a subset of IT Security the basic nature of the user relationship with their cloud provider may be too simple for the folks in IT Security.

If this proposal is about the administrative-side of "cloud security", then a site like IT Security is perfectly appropriate. But if this an end-user site (as I suspect) with questions about how to keep your data secure, then either Webapps or Super User (depending on the context) would be appropriate.

With the example questions posted so far, it's is very difficult to say if this site is needed at all. The questions are overwhelmingly broad; the three of them pretty much sum up the entire content of the site. It would be better to post some much more specific questions about the day-to-day problems someone might encounter in this subject space. That's the only way to tell if it's worth giving the subject further consideration.

This is completely covered by IT security.

IT Security Stack Exchange is not so overwhelmed that it needs to split off into smaller sites. It's rather the opposite: the site is even broader than IT Security, it encompasses all of information security and more besides (such as physical locks).

IT Security is primarily geared towards professionals, but end-user questions tend to be well-received if they show a genuine wish to understand the issues.

  • I have found that the exact opposite is true. The folks in IT Security are so over the top that most end users resist posting. This will be about specific products, their merits and end user issues. Just the kind of stuff that would get an eye roll from the pundits at IT Security. No need to feel threatened gentlemen, this is not going to graze on your freshly manicured turf. – Jumpto Sep 28 '13 at 16:48
