Proposal: Amateur Radio

This proposal is listed under "Recreation" I wonder whether "Technology" wouldn't be better as many topics here will be on technical aspects of amateur radios.

I agree that there are other topics, too (legal, social, ..)

  • What's wrong with it being under recreation? I personally think it fits better under recreation..

  • It's not wrong per se. I think both categories are valid and have merits (might attract different people). The purpose of this question is to collect arguments and either confirm the decision or switch.

  • Amateur Radio requires passing technical exams and licensing, the first of which is titled "Technician". It may be a recreational hobby - but it DEFINITELY requires technical knowledge. It belongs in Technology.

Since the purpose of the question is to decide whether to confirm the decision to stay in recreation or switch to technology, I say:

Stay in recreation.

I think we this proposal would be fine in either, however I think it suits recreation best.

(someone who wants to move to technology can create another answer, and then the community can vote)

Here, on the Indian sub-continent, regulations define Amateur radio as a technical hobby

(+: Recreation is quite alright methinks

I don't think this really matters. The only reason the category matters is in the early stages of Area 51, it doesn't make much of a difference for a proposal this close to launching.

  • Scroll down to the bottom, for a few weeks the listing there was changed, people might click different "more" links to find new inspiration and new topics

  • Yeah, it really only matters for sorting in the footer and on the main SE site.. otherwise nbd.
