When I voted to close an example question, I saw the old close reasons:

  • Exact duplicate
  • Off topic
  • Not constructive
  • Not a real question
  • Too localized

These were recently replaced with:

  • Duplicate
  • Off-topic
  • Primarily opinion-based
  • Unclear what you're asking
  • Too broad

Why is it that on Area 51 example questions, I still see the old close reasons?

Recently, I've seen moderators having to use an old close reason and clarify in the comments that it really means something else (e.g. close one as "not a real question" then post a comment saying that this would be closed as "too broad" on the actual site).

The code that runs the proposal process was based on the original Stack Exchange software. Since it was split off long before the close system was redesigned, those changes are not easily retrofitted back here. But once the dust settles on the new closure system, I'll see if changing the text (not the behavior) of the menus makes sense. But it's not likely we'll be retrofitting the entire close system back into the Definition phase.

  • What about the Area 52? Will that include these changes? Commented Jul 10, 2013 at 6:23
  • @CodyGuldner A next-generation proposal process will likely be based on creating something akin to a trial site so, yes, I would expect it to include the basic behaviors found in a real Stack Exchange site. Commented Jul 10, 2013 at 13:44
  • If you do implement this, consider that since example questions can't be answered and that there is no reopen queue, questions that are closed under the new reasons should proceed directly to the "[closed]" state instead of being "[on hold]" for 5 days. Commented Feb 3, 2014 at 3:02
