I just noticed an advert on Stack Overflow for a Biology proposal on Area 51.

Since I have zero interest in biology I guess there's two possibilities: it is an automated thing that randomly selects from the top X a proposal to advertise or it is necessary to apply for / submit an advert to appear and they get cycled?

Is it either of these, or something else, and what does someone need to do to get their favourite proposal advertised on other Stack Exchange sites?

This is something that happens automatically once the proposal goes above 50%.

I can't find the associated post that mentions it, but this is how it works.

  • Well after a LOT of refreshing, I finally saw another proposal advert, for the Healthcare one at 87% this time, so I guess that backs up what you say.

  • Yes, this is in fact how it works. Proposals are promoted through the Stack Exchange sites once they surpass 50%.
