Considero que es.stackoverflow.com es preferible porque:
- StackOverflow es una marca conocida y reconocida globalmente. Muchos desarrolladores de habla hispana han encontrado el sitio al realizar búsquedas en el Internet y de alguna manera conocen su valor, aunque se ven impedidos de participar debido a la barrera del idioma. Utilizar directamente la marca StackOverflow en el sitio ayuda a estos usuarios a reconocer el valor de la alternativa en su idioma
- StackOverflow es un concepto de programación y por tanto relacionado de manera casi inmediata en la mente del visitante.
- Al utilizar el sub-dominio es, seguimos una convención plenamente establecida. La wikipedia —que es el 5to sitio más visitado del mundo— utiliza esta convención, a la que todos estamos acostumbrados. Eso ayuda a que aún los visitantes esporádicos recuerden fácilmente la url para entrar al sitio (es = español).(StackOverflow = el mejor sitio de P&R sobre programación en el mundo).com
A la vez, a la propuesta de utilizar d12odepila.stackexchange.com le encuentro las siguientes desventajas:
- d12o no es un numerónimo de uso común o al menos bien establecido, por lo tanto difícil de identificar su significado (tendrías que leer las FAQ para saber lo que significa) y por tanto el cerebro de nuestros visitantes no lo relacionaría con ningún concepto previamente conocido. Tu mismo has tenido que explicar lo que significa en tu pregunta, de otra forma yo seguiría preguntándome qué quisiste decir!
- StackExchange, aún cuando es una marca cada vez más reconocida, no goza de la misma popularidad que su hijo StackOverflow.
- StackExchange no es un concepto de programación y por tanto no será relacionado automáticamente en la mente de los programadores.
Me alegra que lo hayas preguntado, pues dado el proceso, entiendo que la decisión no depende tanto de nosotros (la comunidad), sino de StackExchange (la empresa). I think es.stackoverflow.com is better because:

Lots of spanish speaking developers have found the site in Internet search results and somehow know its value, even if they can't participate because the language barrier. Using the StackOverflow brand directly in the site will help this users to recognize the value of the alternative in its own language.
- StackOverflow is a programming concept and thus it is almost instantly related in the visitor's mind.
- By using the es sub-domain, we follow a established convention. Wikipedia —which is the 5th more visited site of the world— also uses this convention to which we all are used. This helps even the casual visitors to easily remember the url to enter the site (es = Spanish).(StackOverflow = the best Q&A programming site of the world).com
On the other hand, I found the following disadvantages by using the proposed d12odepila.stackexchange.com:
- d12o is not a commonly used —or even well established— numeronym, thus it's hard to identify it's meaning (you have to read the FAQ to know what it means) and the visitor's brain will not relate it with any previously known concept. You yourself have had to explain what it means in your question, otherwise I would still be wondering what you mean!
- StackExchange, although is a increasingly recognized brand, doesn't enjoy the same popularity of his son, StackOverflow.
- StackExchange is not a programming concept and thus will not be automatically related in the programmers mind.
I'm happy you asked this, because of the given process, I understand the decision is not ours (the community), but of StackExchange (the company). I hope with the votes to my original question about naming, and the votes that this question and it's answers get we are sending a message about what we prefer.
